Abstract

This study aimed to develop a short version of the Cognitive Dissonance Scale (Al-Adamat & Atoum, 2023) that represents its six theoretical dimensions while maintaining strong psychometric properties. The study was based on two samples of Al al-Bayt University students (n = 496 and n = 499). Corrected correlations and item factor loadings were used to select the items that best represented the dimensions. The results produced a short version consisting of 18 items (three items per dimension), which showed good correlations with their respective dimensions (0.401–0.869) and factor loadings ranging between 0.41 and 0.65. Cronbach’s alpha reached 0.95 for the total score and ranged from 0.628 to 0.930 for the subscales, reflecting high reliability. Therefore, the short version is a valid and reliable tool that combines theoretical accuracy with practical utility for research use.
