Abstract

The present study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a group counseling program based on Zumba exercises in enhancing emotional well-being among a sample of adolescent female students in Zarqa Governorate. The researchers employed a quasi-experimental design with two equivalent groups (experimental and control) and pre-, post-, and follow-up measurements. The sample consisted of 30 adolescent students who were randomly assigned to the two groups. The experimental group participated in a developmental counseling program over five weeks, comprising ten sessions, each lasting 60 minutes. The program integrated structured Zumba-based physical activities with techniques derived from positive psychology. To assess emotional well-being, the Stirling Children’s Well-being Scale was used after being translated and adapted to the Jordanian context. Results from the Mann-Whitney test indicated statistically significant differences in the post-test scores between the experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group on the total score and all subscales (positive emotional state, positive outlook, and social desirability). Moreover, the Wilcoxon test results showed no significant differences between the post- and follow-up measurements in the experimental group, suggesting the program’s sustained impact one month after implementation. The study recommends incorporating expressive approaches involving movement and music, such as Zumba, into counseling programs targeting adolescent girls, and conducting further experimental research on different age and community groups.
