Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of a group counseling program targeting Syrian mothers and their children on improving parenting practices and children's communication skills. The program was based on Social Learning Theory techniques, and two instruments were developed: a Positive Parenting Scale and a Communication Skills Scale. The sample consisted of 20 Syrian mothers and their 20 children, all scoring below average on the respective scales. The program included 13 sessions delivered twice weekly. Results showed statistically significant improvements (α = 0.05) in the experimental group compared to the control group in both parenting practices and children’s communication skills, with the exception of the "questioning" subscale. These findings support the effectiveness of the group counseling program.
